Though John never performed a miraculous sign,
all that John said about this man was true.
—John 10:41
John the Baptist had been dead for two years, but his influence was alive and well. His miracles weren’t remembered, for he performed none; but his words were remembered. He was consumed with introducing Jesus to the world and the world to Jesus. That’s what was remembered.
You gratefully remember someone that profoundly influenced you, don’t you? A parent? Teacher? Friend? That person may have been gone for years, a distant memory for most. But not for you, because by life and by word that was the person who introduced you to Jesus.
You will be gone before long. What do you wish to be remembered for? What will be remembered for?
Your life doesn’t last long,
but your influence does.
