You do not want to leave too, do you?
—John 6:67
They loved his healing and feeding, but didn’t cotton to his teaching. His miracles enthralled them; his words repulsed them. What they wanted he would not give; what he offered they would not accept. He didn’t measure up to their expectations, so they walked away: “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him” (Jno. 6:66).
Turning to the twelve (and to us?) he asked, “Do you also want to go away?” (NKJV).
If you insist that Jesus measure up to your expectations rather than you measuring up to his, you are perilously close to walking away from him—not walking away into a flagrantly sinful life, but walking away from real discipleship.
Salvation is free, but discipleship
will cost all you have.
