God said to him, “You fool!”
—Luke 12:20
His name tag said Fool. It was God who wrote it and pinned it on his shirt.
He was rich. Nothing wrong with that.
What was wrong was that he didn’t have a clue that it was God who made it possible.
He was singing his song: “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me” (Deut. 8:17).
But he hadn’t learned—so didn’t sing—the second verse: “Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth” (Deut. 8:18).
He was about to get hit by a train that he didn’t see coming: “You fool! Tonight you will die. Then who will get what you have stored up?” (Lk. 12:20 CEV).
Enjoy the gift, but don’t forget the Giver.
