He has risen.
—Mark 16:6
The Saturday between the crucifixion and the resurrection was surely the darkest day Jesus’ disciples ever experienced. Their leader was dead.
But God is good at turning dark Saturdays into bright Sundays. The darkest day of the disciples’ lives was about to become the brightest day in human history.
Dr. Carl F.H. Henry once called the resurrection of Jesus a “rumor of hope amid the widespread despair of a hopeless world.”
A rumor had been born—first given to a cluster of women who came to the tomb on Sunday morning to anoint the body of Jesus, only to be told, “He has risen!”
The rumor began in a whisper in Jerusalem and became a thunderclap shout to the ends of the earth.
It was not a rumor. It was the most glorious fact in history.
He has risen!
