Be strong and courageous.
—Joshua 1:9
We think of courage as the grit to stand our ground and say “Yes!” or “No!” in the face of external opposition. That’s a piece of it, for sure.
But the greatest challenge to courage is oneself—standing strong at the testing point of internal vulnerability.
It takes five-star courage to examine yourself and admit a fault, weakness, or temptation. You can’t face and fight what you won’t admit.
But when you admit it, you can face and fight it. You will lose a round now and then, but if you have the courage to struggle to your feet and fight another round, you will eventually win.
I correspond with a friend who always closes his communication with one word: Courage.
I close this essay with this wish for you . . .
