Do not worry about tomorrow.
—Matthew 6:34
“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Jesus asked (Matt. 6:27). The answer is obvious, right? What does worry accomplish? Nothing.
Well, that’s not quite right—there are a few things that worry can do for you. It can sap your stamina and trigger scads of health problems. It can strip you of optimism and torpedo your zest for life. It can impair your judgment and sabotage your ability to make good decisions. It can smother your sense of gratitude. It can brand you as unpleasant and unwanted company.
Worry doubles your trouble: if what you worry about doesn’t happen you have lived through it once for nothing; and if it does happen you have lived through it twice.
You can’t change yesterday, but you can poison
today by worrying about tomorrow.
