Do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or
“What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?”
—Matthew 6:31
Jesus said, “You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matt. 6:24). Are we trying to live with one foot in each world?
We aren’t in much danger of falling for such obvious idolatry as worshipping Aaron’s golden calf or Nebuchadnezzar’s golden statue. But because of where and when we live, we’re sitting ducks to the camouflaged idolatry of money worship.
There are two big mistakes we can make concerning money: one is to worship it; the other is to worry about it. If Satan can’t capture us with an obsession for it, he will just as happily crush us with anxiety about it. It doesn’t matter to him which trap snags us as long as he succeeds in keeping us focused on money instead of God.
Sometimes the price we pay for money is too high.
