Freedom from Separation (Romans 8:31–39)
[Nothing] will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
—Romans 8:39
We are not promised immunity, but we are promised victory.
“Since God is for us, who can be against us? (v. 31). He gave up his own Son for us (v. 32). He has justified us (v. 33): declared us “not guilty.”
Jesus died for us, was raised to life, and is now at the right hand of God interceding for us (v. 34). Nothing—no pain, misery, or loss—can separate us from his love (v. 35).
“We are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (v. 37). Neither death nor life, neither the present nor the future, nor anything else in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (vv. 38–39).
Of what, then, shall we be afraid?
