Teach us to number our days.
—Psalm 90:12
He thought he knew better than I how I should use my time. Perceiving my reluctance to dive into something he wanted me to do, he asked, “Do you have anything on your schedule more important than this?” “Yes, I do!” (I didn’t say it, but I thought it.)
If you say “Yes” to every request for your attention, you have given up control of your schedule and priorities.
Saying “Yes” to every appeal and every buzz of your cell phone is to say “No” to some things that should have priority. It’s okay to say “No” to non-emergencies that interfere with the primary work God has given you.
Saying “No” may ruffle some feathers, but it frees you to say “Yes” to what you have prayerfully judged to have precedence.
Being busy and being productive
are not synonymous.
