Whoever hears my word and
believes him who sent me has eternal life.
—John 5:24
Do you remember GM’s early boast that they had built a “safety car” that would keep an occupant from being killed in a 100-mph crash?
I chuckled at GM engineer William Larsen’s admission that they weren’t quite there yet. If the car crashed into a solid barrier at 50-mph, said Larsen, all the occupants would be killed, “although some only slightly.” I found it comforting to know that if I was in a car crash in a safety car, I would be “only slightly” killed.
Not so amusing is the nail-biting fear of some Christians that if they get to heaven, it will be by the skin of their teeth.
“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life” (1 Jn 5:13).
Blessed assurance.
