A servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
—James 1:1
Servant. That’s probably not the first word you want on your Résumé if you’re hoping to be the CEO.
But James would have been pleased to have the words “James, a Servant” carved on his gravestone. That’s how he opened his New Testament letter: “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Paul, Peter, and Jude opened letters similarly. Their letters and lives were laid on the altar of servanthood.
That’s what God asks of you. Nothing more. Nothing less. He trusts you to faithfully serve where you are with what you have. Wear the designation “Servant” proudly.
You will have achieved the highest level when you hear your name called in heaven, followed by the words, “a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
There’s no higher position
in the Kingdom than Servant.
