Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness

Let us do good to all people.
        —Galatians 6:10

The opening lyrics of Velna Ledin’s hymn run this way:

God is so good / God is so good / God is so good / He’s so good to me.

Every meal, every night’s sleep, every possession, every pleasure, every moment is a gift of God’s goodness.

Don’t take his goodness for granted. Rather, ask, “How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?” (Ps. 116:12).

Here’s one way: Be good to others—whether you consider them worthy or not. Mirror God: “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love . . . he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities” (Ps. 103: 8, 10).

“Add to your faith goodness” (2 Pt 1:5).

Be good and do good.
