When John opened his Gospel, pointing to Jesus as the Life and the Light (Jn 1:4), he eliminated comparison, competition, or compromise.
“God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life” (1 Jn 5:11–12).
Jesus, and only Jesus, is the Life and the Light. He is not one Savior among many; he is the one-and-only Savior; the one-and-only way to God. “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
