I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
—Habakkuk 3:18
The nation was in chaos: the economy was in the tank, and a war they couldn’t win was coming at them. Habakkuk was terrified: his heart was pounding, his lips were quivering, and his legs were trembling (Hab. 3:16).
But even in the face of disaster, he chose not only to endure, but to rejoice: “yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
If you’re feeding at the trough of network news you’re gorging on gloom. But if you’re feasting at the banquet table of God the fare is confidence and joy: “You are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power … Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name” (1 Chron. 29:12, 13).
Happiness is a choice.
