He persevered because
he saw him who is invisible.
—Hebrews 11:27
I’m impressed and inspired by two words that Hebrews uses to describe Moses: “he persevered.” The King James has it, “he endured.”
Moses had times of discouragement, even complaint. To name just a few:
- The defiance of the Israelites who grumbled, blamed, complained, and rebelled.
- The criticism and rejection of his own brother and sister.
- The negative report of the advance team of spies he sent to scout out Canaan.
But his overall profile is that of a man who toughed it out: through the disheartening times, Moses persevered. How did he do it? “He persevered because he saw him who is invisible.”
That’s a sentence worth putting at the top of your I-can-do-it-because list.
Hang tough.
