[God] is able to do immeasurably more
than all we ask or imagine.
—Ephesians 3:20
An ancient Persian fairy tale relates the adventures of three princes from Ceylon who set out in pursuit of riches. They didn’t find what they were looking for, but were frequently surprised by pleasures they hadn’t anticipated.
The original name of Ceylon was Serendip, which explains the story’s title, The Three Princes of Serendip. In 1754, based on the tale, Horace Walpole coined the word “serendipity”—which Webster defines as “finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.”
Joseph neither sought nor dreamed of becoming the prime minister of Egypt—it was God’s serendipity. Paul neither imagined nor intended to go to Europe to plant churches—it was God’s serendipity.
As I tap out these words, I’m excited about a serendipity God may be planning for your life. Be on the lookout for it.
The best is yet to be.
