Bodily exercise has some value.
—1 Timothy 4:8
Year after year, “Lose weight” tops the list of New Year’s Resolutions.
If you watch TV, read a newspaper, or eyeball the magazine display at the grocery checkout, you haven’t escaped weight-loss ads and fads, and before-and-after pictures.
No scripture indicates that we’ll have to physically weigh in before getting into heaven. But spiritual accountability shows up a lot.
At heaven’s gate, will you be asked, “How much did you lose?” Or be high-fived because you’re in the top ten percent in fitness?
I’m big on physical exercise, but here’s a verse that puts everything in perspective: “Bodily exercise has some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come” (1 Tm 4:8).
Lose the spiritual fat and flab.
