Act justly . . . love mercy . . . walk humbly.
—Micah 6:8
Lots of Lists: Top sports teams list. Academy Award winners list. New York Times best-seller list. Fortune 500 list.
If you’re like me, you have list fatigue.
But some lists are worthy of attention. Mahatma Gandhi had his list of Seven Deadly Sins:
- Wealth without work
- Pleasure without conscience
- Knowledge without character
- Commerce without morality
- Science without humanity
- Worship without sacrifice
- Politics without principle
And there are lists in the Bible that we should not ignore:
- A list of things God hates (Prv 6:16–19).
- A list of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22–23).
- A list of the qualities of a maturing Christian (2 Pt 1:5–8).
Then there’s Micah’s short list of the three essentials: “What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Choose your list carefully and
live by it relentlessly.
