Put off falsehood and speak truthfully.
—Ephesians 4:25
Last night I leafed through The Day America Told the Truth by James Patterson and Peter Kim. The book was based on a national survey regarding private morals.
Here’s a sampling of one area of responses:
- Ninety-one percent said they repeatedly lie, both at work and at home.
- Most American workers admit to goofing off at work an average of seven hours per week.
- Half of employees confess to calling in sick when they’re not.
The book was copyrighted in 1991, so I’m sure the numbers have changed—for better or worse.
A separate survey revealed that many Christians were as likely as non-Christians to falsify their tax returns, steal from their workplace, and selectively obey laws.
Let us, dear reader, model truth. Think truth. Love truth. Pursue truth. Talk truth. Walk truth.
A person who is untruthful in small things
cannot be trusted in big things.
