When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.
—Proverbs 11:2
At the time of this writing, the public’s assessment of the US Congress is at an all-time low, a negative 95 percent.
You would think that politicians with a 5 percent approval rating would hide. Instead, they strut, preen, and elbow for camera and microphone dominance.
Contrast this with Luke, whose writings—the Gospel of Luke and Acts—comprise over one-quarter of your New Testament. Some have labeled the Gospel of Luke the most beautiful book ever written, and many scholars consider Luke’s Greek the best in all Scripture.
Yet, in the twenty-four chapters of Luke and the twenty-eight chapters of Acts, he never once mentioned his own name.
Do you see a lesson in that for us?
Humility is appealing. Pride is appalling.
