Bringing many sons and daughters to glory.
—Hebrews 2:10
Limping ashore after decades at sea, the weathered sea dog was assaulted by the taunt: “You don’t have much to show for all those years, do you?”
“No, not much,” said the old salt who had spent years sailing with Sir Francis Drake. “I’ve been cold, hungry, sick, scared, and shipwrecked. But I am certain of one thing: I have been with the greatest captain who ever sailed the seas.”
Jesus is the captain of our salvation (Heb 2:10). Life’s water has been turbulent, but of this we are certain: we have been with the greatest captain who ever sailed the seas.
As Walt Whitman’s O Captain! My Captain! says it: “The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done; From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won.”
O Captain! My Captain!
