The Lord your God is
with you wherever you go.
—Joshua 1:9
John McCain spent five-and-a-half years in “Hanoi Hilton” prison in Vietnam, where beatings were routine, torture was commonplace, and fear was constant.
“Fear,” wrote McCain, “is indispensable to courage.” For courage to be authentic, he said, “it must encounter fear and prove itself superior to that fear.”
Love of his country is what gave McCain courage. Faith in your Father is what will give you courage.
What’s holding you back? Does the problem seem too great? The habit too ingrained? The hurt too intense? The resentment too deep?
I don’t know how much life you have left—nor do you. But I do know that every minute of it is in front of you. With faith in God, take the first step into the rest of your life.
Don’t let your fear outgrow your faith.
