Calm down, and learn that I am God.
—Psalm 46:10
In his book In Praise of Slowness, Carl Honoré encourages his readers to slow down and enjoy the “now.” “A big part of slowing down is doing less,” Honoré says.
“Can’t do that,” you say. Well, maybe you can.
Have a critical look at your to-do list. How many of those entries deserve high priority? Is it your thought-out choice, or are you letting someone else dictate your schedule? Are you wrung out because you haven’t learned how to say “No” to some of the demands for your time?
Eugene Peterson wrote: “When others notice how busy I am, my vanity is fed. The busier I am, the more important I appear to be.”
Maybe it’s time for you to take a deep breath and listen to God’s whisper, “Calm down, and learn that I am God.”
