Give thanks in all circumstances.
—1 Thessalonians 5:18
Water is an unimaginable luxury for many in our world, where 1.2 billion people don’t have access to safe drinking water.
That’s not a problem for most of us. We have cold water, hot water, clean water.
Today be intentionally aware of the taken-for-granted blessing of water. For this one day, when you drink a glass of water, take a shower, wash a load of clothes, or put dishes in the dishwasher, be aware of the blessing.
And be alert to other often-overlooked blessings: a flower, a smile, a child.
The blind Helen Keller urged, “Use your eyes today as if you would be stricken blind tomorrow.”
Awareness is the mother of gratitude,
and gratitude the mother of joy.
