He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
—Psalm 107:29
It had been a long day for Jesus—non-stop teaching and healing. He needed a break. “Let’s go to the other side of the lake,” he said to his disciples. “So they got into a boat and set out” (Lk 8:22).
Soon they were in the sweep of a savage squall—the disciples were terrified, and Jesus was asleep.
You may be in a storm of your own. You need to be in the right boat with the right person to survive. There are a lot of leaky boats and unreliable skippers on the lake, so it’s wise to be choosy.
Your storm is troublesome and scary. But what Jesus did for those disciples, he can do for you.
The disciples shouted, “Help us!”
Jesus shouted, “Be still!”
And the storm stopped.
Jesus is your life preserver.
