My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways.
—Isaiah 55:8
Seventy years ago, J.B. Phillips wrote a little book titled Your God is Too Small, in which he sketched common conceptions of God—one of those being a God who is distant and disinterested, unable and unreachable. We don’t expect much from a God like that.
But we expect a lot from a God like Paul pictures: one who is able to do more than all we can ask or imagine (Eph 3:20). A God without limitations. A God who specializes in the impossible.
Let him speak to you today: “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways . . . As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Is 55:8–9).
Man does the amazing.
God does the impossible.
