The body is not made up
of one part but of many.
—1 Corinthians 12:14
At her birthday celebration, Carole turned the tables on her guests: instead of getting gifts, she gave gifts. To each person, Carole gave one piece of a jigsaw puzzle and a note. The puzzle piece was a reminder that each person was unique and vital to God’s plan; the note was personal, expressing the specific way that person had blessed her life.
Carole’s creativity was a dramatization of 1 Corinthians 12:12–27, where Paul compared the body of Christ—the church—to the human body. Every part of the body—foot, hand, ear, eye—is essential to the whole. No part can say to another part, “You’re not needed.”
You are needed! You are one piece of the picture—and the picture is incomplete without you.
You fill a spot that no one else can fill.
