The body is not made up
of one part but of many.
—1 Corinthians 12:14
Charlie Grimm spent most of his baseball career as player and then manager of the Chicago Cubs.
A scout for the Cubs called Charlie one day, so excited he could hardly talk. “Charlie, I’ve been watching the greatest young pitcher I’ve ever seen! He struck out twenty-seven straight hitters. Nobody touched the ball until one foul ball in the ninth inning. I’ve got the kid right here with me. Do you want me to sign him?”
“No,” Charlie replied. “Find the guy who hit the foul ball and sign him. I’m looking for hitters.”
The church needs strong-arm pitchers and long-ball hitters. It also needs batboys and cheerleaders. It needs leaders. And followers.
I don’t know where you fit in. But the one thing I do know is that you are needed on the team.
You’re not good at everything.
But you’re good at something.
