Then they will know that I am the Lord.
—Ezekiel 12:16
“Then they will know that I am the Lord.” This sentence appears sixty-two times in Ezekiel. Sometimes it is a declaration of judgment; at other times, it is a proclamation of mercy.
God declares his judgment against Judah for their idolatry and immorality, sentencing them to Babylonian captivity: “Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
He pronounces his judgment against the nations that gloated over Jerusalem’s destruction, sentencing them to annihilation: “Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
On the other hand, he extends his mercy to the exiles in Babylon, promising to deliver them from captivity and restore them to their homeland: “Then they will know that I am the Lord.”
A time will come when every person of every generation will know that he is the Lord. Be ready.
With a shout and trumpet blast,
the Lord will appear.
