Permanent Shine

[We are] being transformed into his likeness.
                            —2 Corinthians 3:8

When Moses descended Sinai with the Ten Commandments, his face was radiant (Ex 34:29–33). Paul tells us that Moses “would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away” (2 Cor 3:13).

The coming of Jesus changed that. The contrast between the old and the new is vivid: “We all, who with unveiled faces reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory” (2 Cor 3:18). Moses’ radiance was transitory. Christian sheen is perpetual and permanent.

The brightness of Moses’ face gradually dimmed, then faded away. But the reflection of Christ’s glory in the Christian increases day-by-day for a lifetime, with ever-increasing glory into his likeness.

More like Christ today than yesterday
—and tomorrow than today.
