Like clay in the hand of the potter,
so are you in my hand.
—Jeremiah 18:6
The creation of the universe is told in ten words: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
He made it all out of nothing: the sky was vacant, and “the earth was formless and empty” (Gn 1:2). God said: “Let there be light—and stars—and sea—and land.”
If he made all of this, what can he make of you and me? We are flawed but can be remade—like the marred vessel Jeremiah saw in the potter’s house: “The potter formed it into another vessel, shaping it as seemed best to him.”
The Lord declares: “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand” (Jer 18:6). He who brought the wonders of the cosmos out of nothing can make something beautiful out of you.
Welcome the new you.
