We too may live a new life.
—Romans 6:4
We all say “Amen” to Louisa Fletcher’s poem:
I wish that there were some wonderful place
Called the Land of Beginning Again,
Where all our mistakes and all our heartaches|
And all of our poor selfish grief
Could be dropped like a shabby old coat at the door,
And never put on again.
There is such a place, Louisa: “In his great mercy [God] has given us new birth into a living hope” (1 Pt 1:3).
In fleshly life, we move from infancy to adulthood. In spiritual life, we move from adulthood to infancy. Jesus said, “No one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (Jn 3:3).
Paul explained that new birth: being buried with Christ through baptism and raised to live a new life (Rom 6:4).
God majors in fresh starts.
