Be careful that you do not forget the Lord.
—Deuteronomy 6:12
The Christmas season tends to value getting above gratitude. So Maxine, a mother of three, came up with a Red-Bow plan.
She placed red bows on light switches and water faucets, the washing machine and dryer, the pantry and refrigerator. Attached to each bow was this note: “It’s easy to take for granted the gifts God gives us, so I’ve put a bow on some of them.”
Moses gave Israel this Red-Bow reminder: “[You are inheriting] a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant. . . . be careful that you do not forget the Lord” (Dt 6:10–12).
A Red-Bow reminder to us as well, don’t you think?
Enjoy the gifts—but don’t forget the Giver.
