Don’t become weary and give up.
—Hebrews 12:3
Hebrews 12 opens this way: “Let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus.”
In the final chapter of 2 Thessalonians, Paul wrote: “May the Lord bring you into an ever deeper understanding of the love of God and the endurance that comes from Christ” (2 Thes 3:5).
“Endurance” in these verses is variously translated: perseverance, steadfastness, patience. It means “the grace to bear up under trial and hardship.”
Endurance gives us hope (Rom 15:4).
Endurance gives strength in suffering (2 Cor 1:6).
Endurance gives stamina in affliction (2 Cor 6:4).
Endurance gives victory in trials (2 Thes 14).
Endurance is the fortitude to hang on in faith when everything seems to be going against you.
Endurance is hard—but the payoff is big.
