In quietness and trust is your strength.
—Isaiah 30:15
Hand-wringing nail-biters could profit from a dose of 1 Thessalonians 4:11—“Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life” (1 Th 4:11).
A “quiet life”—in some translations rendered peaceful, calm, or tranquil—is the opposite of an anxious, troubled, disturbed state of mind. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:6–7).
Through Isaiah, God said to his Old Testament people: “In quietness and trust is your strength”—then added this chilling line of censure, “but you would have none of it” (Is 30:15). Will we?
Choose peaceful, calm, trusting
over anxious, agitated, faithless.
