The word of God is living and active.
—Hebrews 4:12
When reading your Bible, affirm its certainties and confront its questions.
Certainties:
We know that all things work together for good to those who love God. (Rom 8:28)
We know that if our earthly house is destroyed, we have a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2 Cor 5:1)
We know whom we have believed, and are convinced that he is able to keep what have entrusted to him until that day. (2 Tm 1:12).
Questions:
What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul? (Mk 8:36)
How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? (Heb 2:3)
What shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel? (1 Pt 4:17)
Your Bible gives comforting certainties
and poses sobering questions.
