James, a servant of God
and of the Lord Jesus Christ.
—James 1:1
“James, a servant of God.”
James would have proudly had those words chiseled on his gravestone, for that’s how he identified himself in opening his New Testament letter.
Paul, Peter, and Jude opened letters with similar words.
We have different gifts to use in service to God. Moses had a rod. David had a slingshot. Dorcas had a needle. Paul had a pen.
Each made a big difference. As servants of God, they ministered to their time, place, and people with their God-given gifts.
Your gift is uniquely yours—given to you and only to you. What God wants to do through you will be done by you or not done at all.
What can you do?
That’s what he asks of you.
Nothing more.
Nothing less.
Do what you can, where you are,
with what you have.
