While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
—Romans 5:8
“All we like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Is 53:6).
The verse begins and ends with “all.”
We are sinners—all of us. “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Rom 13:10).
But Jesus took on himself the iniquity of us all. “[Jesus] died for all” (2 Cor 5:14).
We have all sinned. Therein we are alike.
“Each of us has turned to his own way.” Therein we are different. My sins differ from yours and yours from mine.
But Jesus’ sacrificial death can cover them all. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Cor 5:21).
Jesus paid it all,
All to Him I owe.
