Offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God.
—Romans 12:1
The unflagging faith and ultimate sacrifices of the likes of Albert Schweitzer and Dietrich Bonhoeffer almost make our heads explode. Would we ever have the courage to play on that stage, putting our life on the line, daring to live—and willing to die—in God’s service?
I have never come close to being put to the sword or burned at the stake. My most severe persecutions amount to nothing more than a pinprick or paper cut by comparison.
Nor have I personally known anyone who has been put to death for their faith.
But I have been privileged to know many sisters and brothers who have given their lives day-after-day, year-after-year living faithfully—uncompromisingly putting their lives on the line for God. My heroes. “Living sacrifices.”
Without consistency, there is no faithfulness.
