Christ died for sins once for all.
—1 Peter 3:18
The call from his son was urgent. He was behind on his mortgage and had received notice of foreclosure unless the bank received full remittance by ten o’clock the following morning.
So, dad overnighted a check to the lender.
The son owed it but couldn’t pay it. The father didn’t owe it but paid it. The debt was no longer owed—it had been paid in full.
Jesus paid our sin debt.
We owed it but couldn’t pay it. He didn’t owe it but paid it. The debt is no longer owed—it has been paid in full.
We could get by on nothing less.
We need nothing more.
We rely on nothing else.
“Hopelessly in debt” is now past tense.
