[God’s blessings] are new every morning.
—Lamentations 3:23
How did your day begin? I’m guessing pretty much the same as yesterday—and the day before yesterday and the day before that. We seldom wake up hearing an angelic choir belting out the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
But from the get-go, you greet the day with gratefulness or grouchiness. And you go through this God-gifted day consecrating it with cheerfulness or contaminating it with complaining.
Your day will be unused, misused, or well-used.
An entry in The Book of Common Prayer runs this way:
Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Today is a blessing from God
gift-wrapped and waiting on your breakfast table.
