Teach us to number our days.
—Psalm 90:12
During World War II, the ALCAN Highway was built to connect the contiguous United States to Alaska, via Canada. It wasn’t paved until the 1960s. Early on, someone posted this sign in British Columbia: “Choose Your Rut Carefully—You’ll Be in it for the Next 150 Miles.”
Are you spending your years living in a rut of routine?
Jesus parabolically pictured a man who buried his talent. When called in for an accounting, he admitted his riskless negligence. His master chided: “That’s a terrible way to live! It’s criminal to live cautiously like that!” (Mt 25:26 MSG).
When was the last time you colored outside the lines—lived outside the box?
Colin Wright got it right: “You have exactly one life in which to do everything you will ever do. Act accordingly.”
A rut is not a good place to spend your life.
