Guard the good deposit
that was entrusted to you.
—2 Timothy 1:14
2 Timothy 1 paints a picture of two-way trust.
Our Trust in God
“[I] am convinced that [God] is able to guard what I have entrusted to him,” writes Paul (v. 12).
The apostle entrusted his work, his soul, and his salvation to God. He was confident that God would guard his deposit until he called him home to give him the crown reserved for him (2 Tm 4:8).
God’s Trust in Us
Then Paul tells Timothy: “Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you” (v. 14). God had a job for Timothy and trusted him to fulfill it.
Not only do we put our trust in God, but he also puts his trust in us. When he wants something done, he needs boots on the ground.
Your boots. Don’t go AWOL.
We depend on God.
God depends on us.
