Don’t be anxious about tomorrow . . .
Live one day at a time.
—Matthew 6:34
“One day at a time” has a solid foundation in Scripture.
God provided manna for the wandering Israelites each day, charging them to “gather [only] enough for that day” (Ex 16:4). Jesus taught his disciples to pray, “Give us today our daily bread” (Mt 6:11). God’s mercies “are new every morning” (Lam 3:23). And Jesus said, “do not worry about tomorrow” (Mt 6:34).
Structures are built one brick at a time. Victories are won one decision at a time. A well-lived life is achieved one day at a time.
A sure way to waste today is to be preoccupied with the past or the future. You can’t rewind to the past, nor fast-forward to the future.
“This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps 118:24).
Win the day.
