He who began a good work in
you will carry it on to completion.
—Philippians 1:6
“Strike three!”
“Rats!” squawked Charlie Brown. “I’ll never be a big-league player. I just don’t have it. All my life I’ve dreamed of playing in the big leagues, but I know I’ll never make it.”
“You’re thinking too far ahead, Charlie Brown,” said Lucy. “You need to set more immediate goals. See if you can walk to the mound without falling down.”
There’s no magic carpet that will jet you to a utopian future. You get there one step at a time.
Spiritual growth is the same. You don’t hit the stage fully developed. You grow inch-by-inch, day-by-day, “being changed into [Christ’s] likeness from one degree of glory to another” (2 Cor 3:18).
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Just take one step today that gets you closer to being like Jesus than you were yesterday.
Never stop becoming something more.
