Let us run with perseverance.
—Hebrews 12:1
I’ve been a runner for more than four decades. I’m not a competitive runner (coming in last would be ego-bruising). I’m just a this-is-for-my-health runner. I’ve been blessed with good genes, stable knees, and very few injuries—none serious.
Actually, we’re all runners. We run from some things and toward some things.
Paul advised Timothy to run away from envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions, friction, and love of money—and to run toward righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness (1 Tm 6:11).
Running away from evil is good judgment. Running toward unscrupulous people, places, and practices is fatal.
Our mind, time, and energy should be invested in both flight and pursuit: running from evil; pursuing goodness.
