Give him your [body] as a living sacrifice.
—Romans 12:1
The Little Drummer Boy is a seasonal favorite, with its oft-repeated drumbeat, “pa rum pum pum pum.”
It’s the fictitious tale of a young boy being summoned by the Magi to the scene of Jesus’ birth: “Come, they told me, a newborn King to see. Our finest gifts we bring to lay before the King.”
“Little baby,” says the drummer boy, “I am a poor boy too. I have no gift to bring that’s fit to give our King.”
All he has is his drum. “Shall I play for you?”
Mary nodded.
“I played my best for Him. Then He smiled at me.”
You know the feeling: “[You] have no gift to bring that’s fit to give our King.” Oh, but you do! You have something no one else can give him—yourself. Play your best for him.
Jesus wants you. He asks nothing more.
Give him nothing less.
