You have set our iniquities before you,
our secret sins in the light of your presence.
—Psalm 90:8
Wherever and whenever you are reading this, there is scandal in the news. It may involve a big shot in Washington, a celebrity in Hollywood, a well-known athlete, or a not-so-well-known person in your town.
First there was denial, then facts that were undeniable. The scamp was not disturbed by the sin, only by the discovery.
But secret sin is just as sinful as out-in-the-open sin. Hiding it doesn’t minimize it.
Nor is it secret: it may be hidden from humans, but not from God. “You know all of our sins, even those we do in secret” (Ps. 90:8 CEV). But what a great God we have; through Christ all is covered and forgiven.
If you have to hide it, don’t do it.
