His mercy endures forever.
—Psalm 136:1
Ours is a culture of disposables. Much of what we purchase is designed to be used, then tossed: beverage bottles, paper plates, plastic eating utensils—also the grocery bag in which you brought them home and the pen with which you signed the credit card voucher.
“Disposables” also describes many of today’s relationships. Throwaway marriages when things grow combative. Employer-employee splits when younger, less expensive help is available. Athletic termination—injured and ousted.
But your relationship with God is not disposable. It is made permanent by his enduring mercy. He wants you to remember that, so the Bible says it over and over. The phrase, “His mercy endures forever” is repeated twenty-six times in the twenty-six verses of Psalm 136.
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever” (Ps 136:1).
God’s mercy isn’t earned—
it’s a never-ending gift.
