As we have opportunity,
let us do good to everyone.
—Galatians 6:10
Transferring data from my outdated computer to a new one, Jimmy clicked on a box beside the sentence: “I have read and agree to the terms of service.” He said, “I hope God won’t zap me for saying I’ve read something that I haven’t.”
These End-User License Agreements go on for pages that might as well be written in Swahili for a legalese-challenged person like me.
A friend sent me a licensing agreement that had no legal jargon. Inviting free usage, it simply said: “May you do good and not evil. May you find forgiveness for yourself and forgive others. May you share freely, never taking more than you give.”
That sounds very Jesus-like. His terms of service touch all those bases: calling on us to do good (Mt 7:12), forgive (Mt 6:14), and share (Lk 6:38).
There’s no small print in
your contract with Jesus.
